  • For the Aloo Patty:
    • 2 medium-sized potatoes (boiled and mashed)

    • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
    • 1-2 green chilies (optional, finely chopped)
    • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala (optional)
    • Salt to taste
    • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
    • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon oil for frying
  • For the Burger Assembly:
    • 4 burger buns (whole wheat, sesame, or any type you like)
    • Lettuce leaves
    • Tomato slices
    • Onion slices (optional)
    • Ketchup or mayonnaise (or both)
    • Cheese slices (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Aloo Patty:
    • In a large bowl, mash the boiled potatoes well. Make sure there are no lumps.
    • Add the chopped onions, green chilies (if using), cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala (if using), salt, pepper, and cilantro. Mix everything together.
    • Gradually add breadcrumbs, a little at a time, until the mixture is firm enough to shape into patties (you may need more or less depending on the moisture of the potatoes).
    • Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. They should be slightly larger than your burger buns.
  2. Fry the Aloo Patties:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
    • Carefully place the patties in the skillet and cook them for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. You can also shallow fry them if you’d like to use less oil.
  3. Toast the Burger Buns:
    • While the patties are cooking, cut the burger buns in half. Toast them lightly in the pan, on a grill, or in a toaster until they’re slightly crispy and golden.
  4. Assemble the Burger:
    • Spread ketchup, mayonnaise, or both on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
    • Place the hot aloo patty on the bottom half of the bun.
    • Add a slice of cheese (optional), a leaf of lettuce, and slices of tomato and onion, if desired.
    • Top with the other half of the bun.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve your aloo patty burger hot with fries, chips, or a side salad.
